New Roofs & Re-Roofing
A new roof is the biggest single thing you can do to protect a property, and it is the work we are asked for most often in Fishponds and the surrounding BS16 streets. Whether the existing covering has simply reached the end of its life, the battens and felt have perished, or repeated patch repairs have stopped holding, a full re-roof puts the whole system right in one go.
We strip the old covering back, inspect and replace defective timbers, fit a modern breathable membrane and new treated battens, then re-cover in the tile or slate you choose. Ridges, hips and verges are finished with dry-fix systems where appropriate, so there is no mortar to crack and wash out in a few winters' time.
Scaffolding is arranged and booked in as part of the job, and every scrap of waste material leaves with us. You get a clear written quotation before anything starts, so you know exactly what is included.

Most roof leaks are not where the water appears inside. We trace the actual entry point rather than guessing, which is the difference between a repair that lasts and one that has you calling someone back out after the next downpour.
Typical jobs include replacing slipped or cracked tiles and slates, re-bedding ridge tiles that have worked loose, renewing failed lead flashings around chimneys and abutments, clearing and repairing valleys and gullies, and making good after storm or wind damage.

Flat Roofs & GRP
Flat roofing has moved on a long way from the bubbling felt most people picture. GRP fibreglass — polyester resin reinforced with glass fibre and cured with a catalyst — gives a seamless, joint-free waterproof laminate that copes well with the British weather and is one of the most reliable systems available for domestic work.
We install and repair flat roofs on extensions, garages, porches, dormers, balconies and outbuildings, as well as on commercial units, and we are happy to advise on whether an overlay or a full strip-and-recover is the better value option for your roof.
A well-built flat roof is also useful space. It will take a roof-top garden, solar panels or air-conditioning plant without any drama, and the materials and upkeep are genuinely affordable compared with a pitched alternative.

Fascias, Soffits & Guttering
Guttering is easy to ignore until it is not. Once water is running down a wall instead of into a downpipe, the damage moves quickly from a stain to wet plaster, rotten timber and failed pointing — and that repair costs many times what the guttering did.
For new fascias, soffits, bargeboards and cladding, UPVC is almost always the right choice. It looks smart, it does not need repainting every few years, and it will not rot. We carry a full range of colours and profiles so the finish matches the rest of your property rather than shouting about being new.
We also handle straightforward repairs: re-hanging sagging runs so they fall correctly, replacing cracked sections and brackets, sealing leaking joints and clearing blockages.

Chimney Stacks & Lead Work
Chimneys take more weather than any other part of a roof. They stand proud of the covering on every side, so brickwork, mortar and lead flashing all decay faster up there — and once the mortar stops supporting the stack it can become genuinely unstable.
We repoint and rebuild chimney stacks, renew flaunching around the pots, and fit or replace lead flashings, soakers, back gutters and aprons. We also cap or remove redundant stacks and make the roof good afterwards.
The same applies to valleys and gullies, where two roof slopes meet and every drop of water is funnelled into one line. Lead there works hard, and when it splits or lifts the leak that follows is usually blamed on the tiles. Catching this work early is far cheaper than dealing with the water damage later.

Roof Tiling & Ridge Work
A full set of the right tiles, properly laid, does more than make a building look smart. It keeps the structure warmer and drier, sheds water the way the roof was designed to, and takes a real bite out of heat loss through the roof space.
We re-tile whole elevations, replace individual cracked and slipped tiles, and match older clay and slate coverings as closely as possible so a repair does not stand out as a patch. Where the felt underneath has perished we will say so, because there is no sense in laying good tiles over a failed underlay.
Ridge and hip tiles bedded in mortar eventually work loose. We re-bed them properly or, where it makes sense, convert to a dry-fix ridge system that is mechanically fixed and does not rely on mortar at all.

Service Questions
How long does a new roof take?
Most standard terraced or semi-detached roofs in the Fishponds area are stripped and re-covered inside three to five working days, weather permitting. Larger or more complex roofs with valleys, dormers or multiple chimneys take longer, and we will give you a realistic timeline with your quotation.
Do you carry out emergency roof repairs?
Yes. If a roof is letting water in after storm damage or a failed repair, call us and we will get to you as quickly as we can to make the property safe and watertight, then arrange the permanent fix.
Is a GRP fibreglass flat roof better than felt?
For most domestic flat roofs, yes. GRP cures into a single seamless laminate with no joints or seams to fail, which is where traditional felt roofs usually let go. Good quality torch-on felt still has its place, and we will tell you honestly which suits your roof and budget.
Can you match new guttering to my existing colour?
In nearly all cases, yes. UPVC fascia, soffit and gutter comes in a wide range of colours and profiles including black, white, anthracite grey, brown and woodgrain finishes, so a partial replacement can be matched to what is already there.
My chimney is leaking — does the whole stack need rebuilding?
Usually not. Most chimney leaks come from failed lead flashing, cracked flaunching at the top or open mortar joints, and all three can be repaired without touching the rest of the stack. We will tell you plainly if a rebuild really is the only sensible option.
What is a dry-fix ridge system?
Instead of bedding ridge tiles onto sand-and-cement mortar, a dry-fix system clamps them down mechanically with screws and a ventilated union strip. There is no mortar to crack, wash out or drop, and it ventilates the roof space at the same time.
